Bits and Pieces

I have been ignoring my blog as of late. (and I think I'm ok with that :o) But, I have soooo much to tell you about. Sooo many stories and projects and pictures to share. It's just with the free time I have, I would much rather work on my fun stack of projects than sit in front of the computer.
I have been knitting some more. I have finished a few super cute hats, and feel like I should have been taking pictures of them before they are given away. This is one (hello kitty) I kept, it is Lauren's favorite hat of the moment, and because of that, it is Ella's favorite hat of the moment as well. (They are the best of friends, they are the worst of friends...) the top photo is Lauren with a friend from preschool in another hat I made.
I have also pulled out the sewing machine. A very good friend of mine gave me a cute retro apron last Christmas. I love it. I feel so cute and pulled together when I am cooking in it. It makes me feel better about doing the dishes. It is a magic apron that has accessorized my life in the kitchen, a place that can feel kind of dull and boring. So, I had this grand plan to do the same thing for my family and friends this past Christmas. Those of you friends reading this and thinking "whaaat I didn't get an apron, all I got was photos...??? you are not alone. I didn't get it done. I tend to procrastinate and time caught up with me. I was just getting ready to buckle down and do it, when as you know life became just a "teensy bit more" busy and complicated. Well, I am finishing what I started. I can just say I'm early for next year! And then you all will know what it feels like to look cute and feel fun and flirty even while cooking dinner!
One more story for today, so much more to come....
A few months ago I saw a cute little girls dress in a catalog that was a huge amount of money. I mean I wouldn't spend that much money on me! I wondered if I could do something similar and I was able to do it! You guys, I was so proud of myself. I wanted the world to know that I found the pattern, and I tweaked it, and I sewed it, and that 5 people asked me where I bought it the first time Lauren wore this dress. I thought Lauren loved the dress as much as I did. No, no, oh no! She is starting to grow out of it, and I wanted her to wear it at least one more time. I poured my sweat and tears into making that dress (ok not really sweat and tears, but I really liked that dress.) She on the other hand informed me that she liked her new dress the $5 wal-mart t-shirt dress and that this pretty ruffled apron dress I made for her was NOT what she wanted to wear. I am all for the $5 dress, obviously, I was the one who bought it for her, but really? Who would not want to wear this dress?
One tantrum later, she was wearing the apron dress! (Score 1 for mom!)
PS. the photos are from the first time she wore it...not post battle..
