Noah had his first real science project this past month. They were told to make a 3D model of the earth showing the inner and outer core as well as the mantle and crust. We talked through options he really liked styrofoam. We talked about how to cover it and what we could use. In the end he theorized that fabric would bend easier than paper and would make a better cover. (I'm not kidding when I say that he is 9 going on 30) So, to his endless delight and lots of laughter, he "mummified" his styrofoam ball to look like the earth. He then built a wind-turbine out of legos to mark where his school would be. Yes, I cut out North and South America for him, but he drew and cut out Idaho, and the wind turbine entirely his idea! Almost 200 pins and many strips of fabric later, he was so excited to have finished.
