It all started with...

one skein of yarn. I started knitting out of a desire to try something new and save a little bit of money. We can all see how that turned out. I didn't want to spend $20 each for the beautiful handmade hats I saw in the window for my girls. So instead I paid $15 for yarn and a set of needles and a lesson. Then I paid $20 for a fabulous book of patterns, then I bought more yarn because I became hooked (no pun intended.) My interest became a hobby, my hobby became a lifestyle. Like so many other interests in my life. I love having busy hands. I love to be able to take something from its seemingly uninteresting raw form and make it into something fabulous. And I am so grateful to my husband for giving me a quirky little smile when I come home with yet more yarn, thread, fabric, books, photo stuff etc. and supporting every whim as if it is the most important thing in the world to him as well. That is true love right there. A person who can look at my yarn corner and laugh instead of judge and love me all the more for it. There you have it folks. A written expression to my love of collecting hobbies and my love for the love of my life.
I love the fibers that are available to knitters. Isn't there something so luxurious about a cashmere silk blend. Something so warming about baby alpaca and 100% pure merino wool. Even pima cotten takes on a new excitement when you are holding the skein in your hands testing the feel and color. Imagining what it would feel like, and who would love it as much as you do.
Now to my latest (knitting) project I always have all types of projects going. (The photo at top is just knitting corner. Pan back to photo central, further back to sewing nook, still farther to girl city, then you make your way to spare bedroom spillover. But I digress) I am working on a hat that works for a ponytail. No more weird bumps or discomfort when your hair is smushed to the back of your head. And if you are not wearing a ponytail it can be all buttoned up and still look just as cute!

This is my start. It turned out to be smaller than I thought, I will have to try again for me. So, someone with more hair than my girls will benefit. Can you see it with periwinkle buttons against the green. I am not sure what colors I will pick for mine, but I am thinking something with baby alpaca. It will feel just as cute as it sounds!

  2. Absolutely I will! I am always up for showing you how to do it as well. I should also tell you guys that 4 days after this blog post, I got my hair cut. No more ponytails for me for a little while. Finishing this hat just became less urgent.
