I discovered this series of books last year. I just finished re-reading them, and I wanted to share. I am not sure if I talked about them here before? If so feel free to skip, If not, here it goes. I have fallen in love with Betsy. I feel as if I have discovered Anne of Anne of Green Gables all over again. The books are all about the high school years of Betsy and her friends. (She graduates in 1910) The clothes, the cliques, the parties, the ups and downs of teenage life, the crushes, first love starts and first love stops. Really the times may change, but the life of a girl is very much the same. There is nothing in this book that will change your life. In fact there are even a couple of chapters that seem a bit long (not many, but some.) I just remember reading all of the books with a goofy smile on my face. That is hard to find. I am excited to share these books with my girls as they grow up. The author Maud Hart Lovelace based the books on her life, and there is some background info and photos of her and her friends. It is like this edition is ready made for a bookclub. She wrote some beginner reader books about Betsy and her friends when they were young, but I have not read those. This is the first bok I started with. There are 2 books beyond this one that I pictured, both books are two titles in one. How did I miss these books for so long!!!! Once you read them you will say the same thing. How did I live without Betsy? She now proudly sits on my shelf with Anne, Emma, Clarice, Elizabeth, Jo, and so many others.
I'll mark it on my to read list. I'm always looking for a good light entertaining read. Thanks for the suggestion. Are you on goodreads?
