The end of a school year

With April and May comes the busier end to a busy school year.  Field trips, hikes, field day, passages, board meetings, teacher appreciation etc.  It is such a fun time.  I know it's not jsut the kiddos that are looking forward to the end of the year.  I have to say, I am ready to let go of the routine a little bit.  I am ready to stop looking at the clock and adjusting our day based on carpooling and lessons.  Hello summer, if only the weather would cooperate.
I chaperoned Lauren's field trip to the IF Zoo on Monday.  If you remember, she has studied all about birds this year.  her class worked really hard and raised enough money to adopt a South African Penguin for the next year.  They were so excited to give their presentation, and give the check to the zoo.  We got to get up close and personal with the zoo's ambassador penguin.  The one they use in school presentations ans such.  It thinks it is more human than penguin, but the kids were blown away.  We got to wander around the zoo and see all the new baby animals.  Hello baby lemur, I could watch you all day.  Gasp, so cute, I swear my heart is still a little puddle on the floor of the monkey house.
I had a little revelation while at the zoo.  I have often joked as have others, that a group of kindergartners is like herding cats.  BUT, I think a group of Kindergartners is what happens when a herd of turtles breeds with a litter of kittens.  Complete chaos that needs motivation and instructions 12 times while climbing walls al at once.  Cute, but exhusting at the same time.

I found this project idea about a year ago and wondered if it would be worth it to make something like this as Ella would  be the only one to really benefit from it, but even then, not for long.  But, the bonus of another baby is this project is totally worth it now!  An alphabet quiet book! Awesome.  I will of course change it up a little bit and use stuff that my kids really like, and I would like to make the letter part of it a little bit bigger, maybe the letter in upper and lowercase on one side of the page and then the activity/word on the other side.  Oh the possibilites.   Of course, while it is just a possibility, it seems do-able.  Starting and finishing is a whole other story.
