Today I am avoiding reality. The reality that is the amount of laundry generated by 4 kids and two parents after a week with a 5th grade backpacking trip thrown on top of the usual amount.
A 5th grade backpacking trip that was huge amounts of fun I am told, right up to the point when they had to hike out in the dark, in the rain because the deluge had overwhelmed their tents and the temperature was going to drop to unsafe territory for wet conditions per their policy. So I found myself waiting at a trailhead parking lot at 11:00 PM in the aforementioned dark and rain watching one of the most pathetic, bedraggled looking, soggy, sorry sights I can remember. (It only looked that bad, it wasn't great, but it wasn't as bad as my picture paints it.) What a great group of kids, even cold and wet, every single kid who rode in my car apologized for getting my seats wet. Really?! least of my concerns. Just get in and get warm.
Lauren was in the ballet "Cinderella" last Saturday. Truly one of the better moments in parenting. She was beautiful, and the ballet itself was edge of your seat entertaining!
One of the not so great moments in parenting happened this last week and the week before. We have been tracking a bump we now affectionately call Lily's "unicorn bump" on her forehead since she was 4 months old. They finally decided that we should get a closer look at it, and had us take her in for a CT scan with contrast. Which means she had to be sedated and an IV with contrast dye infused. As much as we knew this wasn't going to be serious, this was just to confirm a non-serious diagnosis, wow I had some mommy-worry. Some full-on-mommy-worry! What a trooper! She was amazing, and amazingly funny coming out of sedation. I love that her world is perfect wherever I am. Really, really not serious, and we will just watch her little forehead for now. I really do have the world's best neighbors!
Ella is reading!!! My tiny-pixie of a little girl is reading. She starts kindergarten this fall, and I cannot arp my head around it. She just seems way to tiny to be ready for it in some ways, and in others she is beyond ready. Ella also very sweetly prays for "Lily and our unicorn" every night. Yeah, I snickered...
Fine, Fine...The laundry says it is not going to wash itself. Sheesh...

I had no idea Lilly had a bump on her head. How scary. And Ella is starting Kindergarten? Wow! I'm glad Noah survived his trip. You guys are the best!
