Last year I discovered yet another new hobby. I learned how to knit at this funky little store called Mustard Seed Dreams here in Pocatello. I LOVE it. I have hands that need to busy. I cannot just watch TV or anything else. It's like I have a compulsion to multi-task all the time. So my girls each have more hats than they can possible wear. Noah has a few (but he does not seem to think that they are as cute and wonderful as the girls do.) I have started to outfit the neighborhood and all my nieces. I never knew that knitting hats would be something beyond a hobby, but something that would make me feel useful. My cousin's daughter (same age as Lauren) was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia last month and was started on some pretty aggressive therapy right away. (3 days from diagnosis to surgery to chemo.... Her dad was out of town hiking in the wind rivers out of cell phone range for all of that Yikes.) So, I turned all of my knitting energy into knitting hats for little Taylie. I have also started a hat drive in cooperation with Mustard Seed Dreams and each hat donated will be entered into a drawing for a gift certificate there. It is hard to feel helpless in the face of something like this, but each stitch gives me a purpose. So if you know any knitters.....
(Photo of Lauren in the latest hat I made for her. I will post more :0)
I love the hats you make! So sorry to hear about your cousin's little girl. Could I buy a couple of hats to help with the cause? I'm not sure if Meg would like one but Annie & Grace would look so cute. Let me know what you think. I wish I had your talents!
ReplyDeleteAHHH, That is the cutest hat YET! is that in that book of yours? I love it love it love it.
ReplyDeleteOh Steph, Thank you! You know me, I already had one done for Grace, I was wondering what to do for Annie when all this happened. Absolutely no payment neccessary. (I will eventually run out of heads that need hats, & then we will have to double up.) I really think if "pay it forward" doesn't sound too cheesy, that this is one of those moments. If you have the opportunity to help a child near to you, or wanted to support a cancer walk or run or etc... it all goes to the same cause. I appreciate so much your concern and willingness to help!
ReplyDeleteOn a less serious note, all of your friends are going to think your girls are soooo cute. (Those are the people I charge... :o)
Thank you so much Jessica. You are doing something so wonderful with your talents. After I told Meg about the hats she wanted one! I told her I'd put a request in but don't worry if you don't have time. I like the boyish one you posted on your blog. Very Cute! We need to catch up a little more. I am so glad you started a blog.
