Basket

I am sure we have talked about this in person, but I am on the Governing Board of the Pocatello Community Charter School.  This is kind of a love/hate relationship for me.  I am learing lots of new things, and stretching my brain in ways that I don't do everyday.  Politics of any institution are frustrating, invigorating, challenging, exciting and boring sometimes all at the same time.  I have always been an involved parent, but have learned that any school you are involved in heavily depends on parent involvement.  A caring, concerned parent can be the difference between a so/so classroom and a better place to be.  (Although the most involved parent cannot do anything about the Ms. ----- of the education system, hence our switch to a charter school in the first place.)
Anyway, back to the Governing Board.  I am supposed to be the "liaison"for the Board to the fundraising committee, and the service committee, but who are we kidding.  people interpret liaison as "person in charge" which has been a bit much as of late.  Well it was a bit much to begin with, but now it's just torture.
All that aside, the one fun, bright spot of the whole fundraising committee has been being in charge of the silent auction basket for my kids classrooms.  I am putting together a 50's housewife themed kitchen basket.  The flirty apron, the string of pearls, the bon-bons, advice on how to keep a hubby happy etc.  The kids parents were then asked to contribute a baking mix or kitchen gadget.  It has come together really well.  It is cute and fun and I hope people will bid high on it and get the joke.    The only thing I am short on is an actual basket.  Does anyone know where to find a large basket for a really small price?  Or, does anyone have a rather large basket they would like to get rid of?  Because I can help you with that. :o)

This researching the 50's housewife has been funny and scary all at the same time.  I am so happy to live in a time where women are appreciated and looked to as contributors to their houshold regardless of employment status.  I see why women had to fight so hard against the stereotyped housewife role and actually fight against their nurturing side.  They were in a world that wouldn't see them as more than that, and looked down on that.  I am feeling very blessed to live in a world that can view me as a wife and mom capable of raising decent human beings, and also realize that I am capable of making decisions on attendance policies even when I express a preference for the mom side of life.
