This is one of the three Tiger Salamanders that the kids found in our neighbor's window well. They caused quite a stir in our little neighborhood. All of the kids took turns holding one. They were really active and it was a little bit too much for Ella. The kids put them in a bucket for overnight and we were going to take them up to a creek to release them the next day, but in the night they all escaped and we found them all living in the flower garden under the bricks. My neighbor looked them up online and found out that they are the only species of salamander that can live all over the country, they are social and will learn to recognize you and look forward to your visits. They burrow up to a foot and half, they eat all sorts of insects and worms etc. So, we have a neighborhood pet. The kids lift the bricks every couple of days to check on them. They are alive and well. At times they are burrowed under the dirt, but will now lift their heads when the kids check on them. (ihave been just as excited about this find as the kids.)
